Thinking Christianity — an open and inviting group of Protestant Christian students at the University of Rochester

Alternative Spring Break is coming!

January 8th, 2009 · No Comments

Yeah, we know that the semester has just started, but it’s not to early to be thinking about spring break!

Each year, PCC has a “Wee” Alternative Spring Break: students who want to come back early from their other spring break adventures, and those who are just staying in the area, spend the Friday and Saturday of spring  break doing work at one or more local churches. We paint, haul tree limbs, clean out storage rooms, wash windows — whatever is needed. This is a great way for us to give back to the local churches that provide our Sunday night dinners, give us hymnals, make financial contributions, and otherwise support our ministry.  We leave campus Friday and Saturday mornings at 9:00, and are back by 5:00.  It’s a lot of fun!

This year “Wee ASB” will be on Friday, March 13, and Saturday, March 14. If you’d like to help this year,  or if you have any questions, contact Chaplain Laurie at ltiberi[at]admin[dot]rochester[dot]edu.

We help put the finishing touches on dinner for about 100 people, serve the meal, and then clean up — all in the space of just two hours! We leave campus at 5:45 and are back at the U of R in time for 8:00 p.m. commitments.

We have room for a crew of 8 students each month. If you’d like to be part of this ministry on November 13, please email Chaplain Laurie at ltiberi[at]admin[dot]rochester[dot]edu.

October 16th, 2008 · No Comments

“Violence and Vengeance: Real and Imagined Conflict in the Book of Revelation” Wednesday, October 22, 7:00 p.m., Interfaith Chapel.

Is this book really about cautioning people not to be left behind in a great tribulation to come? How can Christians reconcile their message of peace and love with Revelation’s language of violence and vengeance? Popular UR Professor Anne Meredith will shed light on what is arguably the most mysterious book in the New Testament.

This event is free and open to the public – all welcome!
