When Richard
Dawkins has been accused of ignoring the entire discipline of theology in his attacks on theism, he has shrugged away the criticism by saying such things as “To refute the existence of fairies, you don’t need to study fairyology.” Reitan will explain why, in wrestling with the question of God’s existence, theology cannot be so cavalierly dismissed.
Eric Reitan, UR alum and award winning writer and scholar, is a Professor of Philosophy at Oklahoma State University specializing in ethics, nonviolence theory, and the philosophy of religion. His recent book, Is God a Delusion?, was named a Choice Outstanding Academic Title of 2009.
Sponsored by UR’s Protestant Chapel Community, The Department of Religion & Classics, The Department of Philosophy, and the Undergraduate Council on Religion & Classics.
